PRESIDENTIAL CHAIRS
THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS POSITIONS
Distinguished faculty members have sparked Tulane’s evolution into the nationally renowned institution it is today. When you invest in Tulane faculty, you set the tone for our institution and ensure our students receive the highest quality education.
The most prestigious positions on Tulane’s campus, presidential chairs combine the eminence of a named chair with the vision of a multidisciplinary approach. The leaders who fill these roles cross traditional field boundaries and draw together experts from across the university. Presidential Chairs were created as part of the Only the Audacious campaign, and we set a goal to fund ten such chairs at a minimum. As we transition into our vision for Always the Audacious, we must build upon our Only the Audacious successes to transform our future.
Bolstering our research enterprise is central to our vision for Tulane. We recognize that some fields of discovery are so critical to Tulane’s unique strengths they demand unprecedented investment. Innovative leaders whose work is interdisciplinary in nature, presidential “super-chairs” will be filled by world-renowned experts who are leaders in their fields and widely acclaimed for their proven commitment to intellectual innovation. The individuals named to these “super-chairs” will take on significant leadership roles within the university, standing as leaders of important centers or institutes.

Giving Opportunities
PRESIDENTIAL CHAIR IN INFECTIOUS DISEASE
Tulane is considered a powerhouse in infectious disease research. In fact, Tulane was one of the first research facilities in the country to obtain CDC approval to receive live samples of the COVID virus. Also, Tulane’s subtropical geographic locale makes it the premier setting for research breakthroughs in diseases such as malaria, Lassa fever, the Zika virus and chikungunya. The interconnectedness of the School of Medicine, the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and the National Primate Research Center has laid a unique interdisciplinary foundation that allows researchers to attack problems from various viewpoints. Establishing a presidential “super-chair” in infectious disease will draw upon our existing strengths in this area and take our impactful research and discoveries to the next level.
PRESIDENTIAL CHAIR IN HEALTH EQUITY
Health phenomena are not solely determined by individual biological or behavioral factors. Rather, societal structures, institutions, policies and the environment can enhance or undermine health, and play a profound role in generating health inequities. Establishing a presidential “super-chair” in health equity will meaningfully advance efforts to understand and mitigate health disparities in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Gulf Coast and beyond. By leveraging resources in public health, social science, medical science, economics and psychology, we have the opportunity to improve health outcomes in our community and promote a more just, equitable health experience for all.
